One would be hard pressed to overemphasize the unique opportunity presented by the inimitable musical pedigrees of the contributing artists featured in Series Two And Three, part of five exhibitions featuring successful contemporary musicians who are artists. Brooklyn Fire Proof, Inc. and Naked Duck Gallery will simultaneously debut this explosion of virtuosity and showcase artwork in their respective spaces from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM opening night Friday October 29, 2004. Both galleries are a couple of blocks from one another, making for a wonderful neighborhood-based music and art evening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Over the past thirty (30) years, the individual efforts of the musicians have altered the face of independent music worldwide. From England’s Jon Langford referencing his twenty five (25) years plus of punk rock with the Mekons to the sudden discovery of prodigy Devendra Banhart in New York only a couple of years ago, each artist has unarguably and fundamentally impacted the musical landscape in his or her own way. Yet, unknown to many, some of the accomplished musicians are seasoned artists having had solo exhibitions all over the world. The works vary – some contributors premier their artwork for the first time, while others present new works after returning to their craft at the end of a long hiatus. A book compiling the artists’ work will be released at the end of 2005.
Live music at Brooklyn Fire Proof, Inc. on opening night at 10:00 PM, with some of the musicians performing among the very artwork that brought them together. The artwork will fit together like a hauntingly quiet orchestra, ending the evening on a breathtaking and memorable note. Featuring Califone, Br. Danielson, and the mp3. $10 at door; or advance ticket sales at: Other Music, 15 East 4 Street, New York; and Eat Records, 124 Meserole Avenue, Greenpoint Brooklyn.
