Dan Kopps idiosyncratic value system is represented in August by a collection of artists work that has puzzled and interested him for some time. Blindingly graceful and understated in ways of getting there, all are beautiful, but quizzically dense in meaning and material. An infatuation with upfrontness and quest for passage are implied throughout.

August is a month thats humbled by its own reality, way past the expectations of summer and awash with early thoughts of fall. Uncomfortable and no longer giddy everything gets sketchy in August. Let it be fall already. As the absurdity of August in New York City cannot be summed up easily, this collection of obtuse artworks meets the viewer and dumbfounds. Like a casual hung over hello the work comes off dispassionate and dumb, perhaps even insulting. But when dumb seems smart, and when smart seems inappropriate, aura upstages without disappointment.
Summer flings can gain importance with distance. And it might take this to realize what these seemingly opaque artworks are about. Peripheral visionaries, these artists confound our expectations of artistic inspiration. Or you may be blinded by its obviousness.

By Car: Take Exit 33 McGuiness Blvd. + Humboldt St. (on right) off the BQE highway. Turn left at light at end of ramp. Turn left at light under the BQE onto Meeker Av. Veer right onto Richardson St. before the service station and billboard sign.
