Brooklyn Fire Proof is pleased to present Mother Tongue, an exhibition of work by brothers Galen Pehrson and Tahiti Pehrson.
Featured in the main gallery are videos, projections, cut paper and drawings by Galen Pehrson. The magic achieved in his inventive style and through the manipulation of paper in illusory sequences can be traced back to an influential movement in Eastern European animation during the 1960s and 70s that is best exemplified in the glass-pane techniques of Russian animator Yuri Norstein. Galen has also become known for his music videos and creative design work with well-known contemporary musicians such as Hella, Adam Green and Devendra Banhart. He lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island.
In the project room are cut paper works by San Francisco-based Tahiti Pehrson. Working from photographs, drawings, and projections and employing freehand cutting, Tahiti seeks to memorialize his rich and varied personal history. The fragility of these paper drawings evokes a sense of ethereality and temporality central to the spirit of Tahiti’s extraordinary life and work.
Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday, 12 – 6 pm or during the week by appointment. For inquiries, please contact Jessica Lin Cox at 718 302 4702 or at jessica@brooklynfireproof.com.
