How I Am Not Myself is a unique group show by artists dealing with their own identities with work that has been created under assumed names. Following an age old tradition started by artists including Marcel Duchamp, each explores working as an alias. The multi media exhibit includes a sound art installation, photography, printmaking and painting. The artists have worked under the guise of their alter egos for awhile and are now introducing their pseudonyms to the public.
ANDYPANDEX is inspired by the simple brilliance of nature. Chaos and contradiction play a large part in his naturally surreal imagery. He works loosely and achieves an organic quality in his paintings. Terry Strawberry paints small, detailed portraits of children on wood. Focusing on the melancholy of childhood, she depicts the forgotten, the apathetic, and the jaded child. Her work is subtle, yet it creates an intense intimacy with the viewer. Jerry P. Adams refuses modern conveniences, preferring traditional film-based photography over highly sophisticated technology. Adams makes glass plate photos using raw materials and hand applied emulsion. Skip Mahnnonoff’s work is an interpretation of a reaction, and an escape from his environment. His mixed media works on paper are like treasure piles of layered bits. Inspired by social and environmental interaction, and the exchange process, Mahnnonoff is largely influenced by comics, cartoons, graffiti, masks, and characters of all kinds. Art Angel focuses on nature but in a contradictory setting. By placing typical outdoor landscapes in interior settings in her c-prints, she attempts to redefine reality.
