It’s been a while since our last post but we would like to bring to your attention to a wild music video shot here last month. “The Reflection of You” by Bear in Heaven was directed by Brooklyn based comical mad man John Lee. This isn’t the first time Lee has shot in our studios and we were glad to have him back. His wicked imagery and offbeat comedy has also produced “Delocated” and “The Heart She Holler”, both of which can be found on Adult Swim AND shot in our studios. Go, John Lee! Keep the awesomeness a-comin’!

“When you see images of ideal modern homes that are meticulously manicured-like the Eames famous southern California homestead- case study #8- you think about the loose ends- mostly- where are they? Then you see the Hans Hoffmans hanging from the ceiling- facing the floor. You see the tumbleweed-hung right there as well. You see the idiosyncratic decision making in the collecting- you admire the mind that choose one thing over so many others.

What I like about this team of artist- they are decision makers- no wafflers. They’ve made a decision- one way or another that – this bit of all that there is-is worthwhile- at least for this little while.

Largely ‘abstract’ decision making- as if there was another way to look at decision making- allows all of us to see the things we surround ourselves with.”

In news this week, the staff here at Brooklyn Fireproof send out a congratulations to the cast and crew of indie feature “Gimme the Loot,” trailer posted below. Utilizing Nut Roaster’s own studios back in September last year, writer and director Adam Leon’s feature film debut will be premiering at this years SXSW film festival, beginning March 9th. “Gimme the Loot” is one of eight feature films selected out of over 1,200 applicants for SXSW 2012.

The premise of “Gimme the Loot” is summarized as:

“Malcolm and Sofia, two determined teens from the Bronx, are the ultimate graffiti-writers. When a rival gang buffs their latest masterpiece, they must hatch a plan to get revenge by tagging an iconic NYC landmark, but they need to raise $500 to pull off their spectacular scheme. Over the course of two whirlwind, sun-soaked summer days, Malcolm and Sofia travel on an epic urban adventure involving black market spray cans, illicit bodegas, stolen sneakers, a high wire heist, and a beautiful, rich girl’s necklace that is literally their key to becoming the biggest writers in the City.”

Also check out Adam Leon’s debut to the New York festival scene with short film “The Killer,” which premiered at New Directors/New Films Festival.

Brooklyn Fireproof and Nut Roaster Studios wish Adam Leon and the cast and crew of “Gimme the Loot” success at this year’s SXSW 2012!

From the creators of Wonder Showzen and Xavier: Renegade Angel, in this show comedian Jon Glaser plays a man in the Witness Protection Program who moves his family to New York City so they can star in a reality TV show, forced to wear balaclavas at all times.

These guys have stopped by the stages a few times to shoot the show and we’re very happy to see them kick off their new season, which they say is going to be their sexiest season yet.

Here at Brooklyn Fireproof we are proud to continue to facilitate a space for independent cinema. This is another stellar film that utilized our studios and premiered at Sundance last week! Congratulations to the cast and crew of For Ellen!

For Ellen, the third film from director So Yong Kim, has been nominated for the prestigious Sundance Grand Jury Prize. Like her first two films, In Between Days and Treeless Mountain, For Ellen is motivated from personal experience that delicately reminisces about the first time the director met her own father. The feature follows Joby, Paul Dano, a young heavy metal rocker as he vies in his last ditch effort to earn shared custody of his 6 year old daughter. So Yong Kim’s interview with Filmmaker Magazine gives readers a small glimpse into her motivations for her latest film.

BIG NEWS, FOLKS!
Pariah, an indie that filmed on our stages last year, will be celebrating it’s NYC theatrical release on December 28th!

Here at Brooklyn Fire Proof, we’re big fans of all cinema but when an indie starts getting some wild attention and filmed at our stages, well, all we’ve gotta say is:

SCORE ONE FOR INDEPENDENT CINEMA!

Okay, so let me back up and tell you a little about the making of this film because it has a pretty cool backstory. Dee Rees, the writer and the director of Pariah, based this feature on a short that she began penning while interning on Spike Lee’s Inside Man. Then, under further guidance from Spike Lee, she finished her 2007 short that screened at Sundance and the LA Film Festival. The folks at Sundance dug her short so much that she was able to participate in the Sundance Institute where she expanded her piece into a feature.

Since, Rees’ feature has blown up! After it’s premiere screening at Sundance, it received a STANDING OVATION! (A standing ovation at Sundance, now, that’s an honor!) By the end of the festival, Focus Features had picked it up for distribution and Bradford Young, the film’s cinematographer, had won the Excellence in Cinematopgrahy Award, US Dramatic Competition. To boot, Pariah is the first Kickstarter film to receive major distribution! Post Sundance, the good news just keeps a-comin’! At the Independent Spirit Awards, Pariah recieved two nominations and Dees walked away with the Breakthrough Director Award. Woot! Woot!

The film is playing at NYC’s Sunshine Theater beginning December 28th. Still on the fence about going, well, check out the trailer and I think you’ll change your mind.
